ANDROID DELIVERY PERFORMANCE IN THE AI ERA
Your agents write faster. Can your pipeline keep up?
AI can multiply PR output—and token spend. But every generated change still has to build, pass CI, survive quality gates, and reach production. I find the delivery bottlenecks slowing the return on your AI investment.

01 / THE AI DELIVERY GAP
You accelerated code generation.
Not validation.
If agents help your team produce 3× more PRs but your delivery system still processes them at the old speed, generation is not throughput. It is inventory.
More output
Agents increase change volume without adding hours to the day.
More code to prove
Every diff still has to compile, test, pass quality gates, and be reviewed.
Same constraints
Slow feedback and unreliable CI now cap the value of your AI spend.
02 / PUT A NUMBER ON IT
What happens when AI output
hits your delivery system?
Model the code volume entering your pipeline, the agent tokens behind it, and the engineering capacity lost while that work waits for feedback.
ESTIMATED ANNUAL CAPACITY COST
of engineering capacity tied up in build and CI friction.
AI THROUGHPUT ENTERING THIS PIPELINE
1.49B tokens / year$14,850 estimated model spend · 16.2 AI-assisted PRs hit a retry each weekToken spend is context—not classified as waste. Delivery friction delays the value that spend is meant to create. This estimate excludes review, quality-remediation, and release friction.
Find out what to fix firstHow the estimate works
Current PRs per week = engineers × pre-agent PRs × output multiplier. Weekly friction hours = current PRs × [(CI minutes × blocked percentage) + (retry-affected percentage × extra active recovery minutes)] ÷ 60. Capacity cost = annual friction hours × loaded hourly cost. Retry-affected PRs include automatic reruns and manual restarts even when the CI system hides them behind one final status.
Annual agent tokens = current PRs × AI-assisted share × tokens per assisted PR × working weeks. Model spend = annual tokens × blended cost per million. Tokens and model spend show the investment entering the pipeline; they are not assumed to be lost. Use total CI feedback time per PR and count only additional active troubleshooting in recovery to avoid double counting.

I’ve worked on
the other side
of the bottleneck.
My in-house DevX work has spanned build performance, CI reliability, merge queues, coverage enforcement, and module ownership—the systems AI-generated changes still depend on.
Past results from my in-house engineering work. Every team and delivery system is different.

04 / PREVIEW THE DELIVERABLE
See how findings become decisions.
A useful audit does more than list problems. It connects evidence to priority, recommends the first move, and defines how the team will know whether the change worked.
- Evidence and diagnosis
- Impact and effort priority
- Action and verification plan
Android Delivery Audit · Executive excerpt
Representative one-page previewPrimary finding: CI feedback is the immediate constraint
Queue delay and repeat failures account for a meaningful share of the end-to-end feedback loop. Faster code generation alone would not address either issue.
HIGH PRIORITY · SYNTHETIC DATARecommended first move
Separate queue time from execution time, identify recurring contributors, and establish a baseline before changing infrastructure or test policy.
How success is verified
Compare matched workflows and track p50/p95 feedback time, retry rate, compute usage, and active recovery time—without lowering the quality bar.
Illustrative synthetic data. This demonstrates the report structure, not a real client result.
05 / THE ENGAGEMENT
Two weeks.
A clear plan forward.
The Android Delivery Performance Audit shows whether your build, CI, quality gates, review flow, and release process can absorb your new AI-assisted output.
From symptoms to priorities.
Establish the new baseline
Review AI-assisted PR volume, local builds, CI runs, failures, queues, quality gates, and release steps. Talk to 3–5 engineers about where work gets stuck.
WEEK ONEFind the expensive bottlenecks
Separate elapsed waiting from active recovery. Identify where higher change volume is straining delivery and estimate the capacity tied up in each constraint.
WEEK TWOGive your team the next moves
Rank fixes by impact and effort. Walk leadership through the findings and a 90-day roadmap that protects speed without lowering the quality bar.
FINAL READOUT06 / IS THIS FOR YOUR TEAM?
A growing team.
A pipeline that hasn’t kept up.
01Your Android app is critical to the business.
02You have roughly 15–80 Android engineers.
03AI agents have increased—or are expected to increase—your change volume.
04Build waits, CI retries, review load, or release work keep absorbing the promised speed.
07 / BEFORE WE TALK
A few practical
questions.
Is this an audit of our AI coding tools?
No. The focus is the delivery system that receives AI-assisted output: builds, tests, CI, quality gates, review, merge, and release. Agent usage and PR volume establish the demand that system now has to absorb.
Why hire you instead of asking Claude or ChatGPT?
Use them—I do. AI can suggest fixes when you describe a known problem. The difficult part is determining which constraint is actually limiting your delivery system, measuring its cost, and choosing changes that improve throughput without lowering the quality bar. That requires your team’s delivery data, engineer interviews, and experienced technical judgment. You hire me for organization-specific diagnosis, Staff-level judgment, and an accountable roadmap—not a generic list of optimization tips.
Is this just a Gradle audit?
No. Builds are one part of the investigation. The audit follows the path from writing code through CI, review, merge, and release to find the bottlenecks that matter most.
How do you protect confidential information?
We agree on confidentiality, data handling, storage, and deletion expectations before any sensitive material is shared. I request the minimum practical access and prefer read-only access wherever it is sufficient.
Will you implement the fixes?
The audit delivers analysis and an actionable roadmap. If you want help executing it, we can scope a separate implementation sprint after reviewing the findings.
Do you guarantee a specific improvement?
No. The audit identifies opportunities using your team’s data. Results depend on the bottlenecks found, the changes you choose to make, and their implementation.
